Instant Words
In the late 1990's Dr. Edward B. Fry identified the 1,000 most commonly used words in the English language. He refers to these words as "instant words" because fluent readers must recognize them instantly in order to understand what they read. Master the first 25 words and you'll be able to read about 33% of all written material! Master the first one hundred words and you'll be able to read about 50% of all printed material! Master the first 300 words and you'll be able to read about 65% of all written material!
